Five
God's
Grace
4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, "Come
close to me." When they had done so, he said, "I am your brother Joseph,
the one you sold into Egypt!
5 And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves
for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.
6 For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the
next five years there will not
be plowing and reaping.
7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve
for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
1 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, "My
father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have
come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen."
2 He chose five of his brothers and presented
them before Pharaoh.
1 "Make the tabernacle with ten
curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with
cherubim worked into them by a skilled craftsman.
2 All the
curtains are to be the same size--twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide.
3 Join five of the curtains together, and
do the same with the other five.
26 "Also make crossbars of acacia
wood: five for the frames on one side of the
tabernacle,
27 five for those
on the other side, and five for the frames
on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle.
7 You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.
8 Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
12 Joshua had taken about five thousand men and set them in
ambush between Bethel and Ai, to the west of the city.
5 He had a bronze helmet on his head
and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels;
6 on his legs he wore bronze
greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back.
7 His spear shaft
was like a weaver's rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His
shield bearer went ahead of him.
40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."
16 Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."
17 "We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered.
18 "Bring
them here to me," he said. 19 And he directed the people to
sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking
up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the
disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
20 They all ate and
were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
21 The number of those
who ate was about five thousand men,
besides women and children.
Layman: There is a real message here in the number five. Has God revealed it to you? If not, keep searching. He will. Also note, the two and twelve. Has God revealed it to you? If not, keep searching.
